A couple of weekends ago we decided to try this place out. Man, was it worth it. They have 200 miles of trails on 5,000 acres. It stands for “North Alabama Trail Riders Association” but is in Westpoint, TN. You can get a family yearly membership for $60 (kids under 18 are free) or you can buy a daily pass ($15 for driver & $10 for passenger). It was about a 150 mile drive for us so not too bad. They have easy, medium, & tough trails. It has really nice scenery as well…creeks & small waterfalls. There is plenty of mud & a bunch of awesome hills as you will see in the video I will leave in this post for you all to see. Head on over to my YouTube channel (FlyHighDef) to check out Part 2 of the trip…it shows more of the trails for you to see. Thanks for stopping by.
This past weekend, we went down to our cabin in Mississippi & rode all weekend. It’s on Sardis Lake which is the biggest lake in the state. It’s 98,000 acres & even has a dam. They use this dam for flood control during the winter & keep the lake really low. So, in the fall & winter is about the only time you can really ride good down there. In the summer, the lake is so full you can hardly get to a lot of the trails. In the winter, you can even ride on the hard packed sand of the lake bottom.
It’s usually closer to the end of March before it gets high enough to block trails. We have had a lot of rain lately & this weekend was kinda tough for us to get to some of the trails. Still had a great time though & hope you enjoy this video. Click the link below to watch. Thanks for stopping by.
We hardly ever get much snow here in the Memphis area, so when we do…it brings out a lot of people on atv’s pulling sleds & cruising around the neighborhood. The last big one that I can remember was back in 87 when I was in the 11th grade, we got 13 inches. The snows where it covers the grass & streets are few & far between. This past Friday we got about 2 inches of ice & snow so I broke out the Highlifter & cruised around the neighborhood for a bit. It was pretty cool sliding around the corners. Back on October the 21st a small group of us went to a place that was new to us for a huge event. It’s called “Mudslangers” & is just inside Houston, MS. It’s a little over 800 acres & some of the best maintained trails we have ridden. We will for sure go back…easy drive too, only 134 miles from our house. They are open from March til October every other weekend. It has nice camping area, plenty of mud, huge water hole to play in, & long, steep, curvy hills that are kept in great shape. Check em out next season if you get a chance, you will love it.
From what I heard, it was an old family hunting club. They decided to have an event (because you know hunters have atv’s) & they made so much money they turned it into an atv park. Click the link below for the video. It was an event so you will see some trucks in the bounty hole & towards the end you will see the awesome trails they have. Enjoy & catch you all soon.
I have been trying to think of different views & such to try & get for my videos. I finally tried it this past Saturday when I went riding with kids. There are two stabilizer type bars called “radius rods” above & below the rear axle so I decided to mount the GoPro to one of these. The intent was to get a partial view of the tire going through the mud & water. Also, anybody that is riding behind me (in this case, my youngest daughter). Where I messed up a bit was putting it on the driver’s side because that put the exhaust pipe in the view. I now know to put it on the other side next time. I think it still came out pretty cool though.
This is the segment where we were riding in the creek & it did good because the water kept rinsing the camera off. I shot another 11 minutes on the trails & it got covered in dust & mud & you couldn’t see after that. There are a couple of times where the camera goes underwater a bit & that view is pretty cool I think. Hope you all enjoy & please stop by my channel & hit the “like” button & subscribe. Thanks. Summertime in Memphis if just miserable. If you have ever been here this time of year, you know what I mean. People talk all the time about how hot it gets out West, but it’s not the same. I have been out there when I used to drive a truck. The humidity is what gets you here. Once it gets in the 90’s, it feels like your lungs will collapse when you just step outside for a minute. You don’t even have to move to start sweating. Anyway, just haven’t been in the mood to pack up & go riding lately because when we stop to rest or eat, it’s unbearable. Hope to get back at it soon & bring you all some cool new videos.
I just busted through the 100 mark on subscribers to my channel…excited. So, just wanted to fill you all in & leave you with the video that has gotten the most views (over 9,600) on my channel so you could check it out. Hit that “subscribe” button & be looking out for new stuff soon. Thanks, click this link for the video.
This past Saturday five groups of us (two sxs’ & three atv’s) went to Bikini Bottoms in Dyersburg, TN to ride & check it out. It’s really a nice place for mudding, cool scenery (a river, a lake, & even a swamp with cypress trees), but just not quite big enough to go all the time (it’s about 70 miles from us). It was a nice change & we had a great time with some new friends. They even have an awesome zip line that you can ride. They host big hill climbing events too.
I wouldn’t drive too far to get to it, but if you live pretty close to Dyersburg & haven’t been, it’s nice & has plenty of mud (we even got the Highlifter stuck) & not too tough of trails. They have a shower house & a water hose hooked up to kinda clean your ride off before you leave. It costs $10/person & they are open from 10:00 am – 7:00 pm on weekends. Gonna leave you with with one of the videos I put together from there that was all IPhone 7 Plus footage. Hope you enjoy.
